talks with TheGaiterView about his music and his upcoming summer tour.
What does music mean to you?
DIGITMAN:Music means international communication to me. It’s a way to express “your” reality to fans near and far across the world. Without music, I don’t think I would have learned how to let people in.
Joe Gaiter: Does your family fully support you?
DIGITMAN: Hell yeah! My entire family, 10 generations deep are all supporting my movement and efforts. They better, if they want to be included in the cash-flow. (haha)
Joe Gaiter:Who has been your biggest influence on your music?
DIGITMAN:I would have to say, Nas, Jay-Z, Slick Rick, Eminem, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley and a few others. But, no “one” person has had a major “individual” impact like Mike. He didn’t just sell records, he shock the world!
Joe Gaiter:What is your biggest regret in life?
DIGITMAN: Not letting the MONSTER out years ago.
Joe Gaiter: How did you get your stage name?
DIGITMAN: I got the name “Digit” because my real name is Seven. A friend of mine name, DoT (Tha Dot’Songwriter) gave me that name because my name is a digit. I got “DIGITMAN” because I would call folks and be like, “What’s up homie? It’s Digit, man. What’s good”. And they would say, “Who? DIGITMAN?” So, the name just stuck.
Joe Gaiter: When did you start doing music?
DIGITMAN:Tricky question. I’ve always been in music. My first job was with South Carolina Record Pool, then with A&M/Perspective Records. I’ve won all kinds of awards from talent shows and other events. But I didn’t pursue a career in music until November/December of 2008. Rap Star, YelaWolf’s producer called me up and asked me if I wanted to record an album with him and I said what any other intelligent artist would say… HELL YEAH! So, I made my plan, laid my bricks and put my back into this it.
Joe Gaiter: Who would you love to preform with?
DIGITMAN: Man… Jay, Busta, EM, B.O.B, Kid Cudi, YelaWolf. It’s so many great artists out there, Major and Indie.
Joe Gaiter: Do you have any upcoming tours or music?
DIGITMAN: My mix tape, “The Alter Ego & The Summer of SUM” released in October (download it for free from www.digitmanmusic.com) and that project landed me my deal with E1/Royal Bloodline Records. I just released my official single, “Hi, I’m the MONSTER” in February. You can buy it on iTunes and the other digital distribution providers. I won my first international music award from BEFFTA for Best Unsigned Artist of last year. AND NOW, I’m going on my first national tour this Summer. It’s the “Summer of SUM Tour” and it hits 15 cities in 31 days, starting in Greensboro, NC and ending in Los Angeles, CA. The site info is www.summerofsumtour.com
Joe Gaiter: What do activities are you up to when your not making good music?
DIGITMAN:I sit on the Board of Directors for the Lisa (Left-Eye) Lopes Foundation. I’m the founder of Campaign for the Arts, a national effort to keep the Arts in Schools). I’m the CEO of a corporate branding company of 19 years, 7th Wonder, Inc. I’m the CEO of DIGITMAN Music (www.DIGITMANMusic.com). And, I own a few other businesses. Outside of that, I like to relax and be in the presence of a gorgeous women and travel.
Joe Gaiter:Final words?
DIGITMAN: Never let anyone dictate your future. Make your plan and stick to it! Make your own lane if too many people are in the way. And don’t be afraid to let your MONSTER out.
